Naturals often enjoy at-home DIY projects/recipes.  Some naturals love a good mayonnaise protein treatment, while others can't get enough of an avocado infused deep conditioner.  With all these home experiments, we sometimes use products that we aren't aware do more harm than good.  So before your next kitchen beautician session, make sure you learn about the 4 things you should never put on your hair:

BAKING SODA -  When I first went natural, I found so many ‘no poo’ baking soda recipes floating around the internet.  After doing a bit of research, I learned that baking soda is an alkaline irritant that, when applied to hair, disrupts its mantle and causes hair to be dry and brittle.

LEMON JUICE -  Lemon juice, unlike baking soda, is highly acidic and penetrates the hair shaft causing it to shrink and over time, which eventually leads to hair getting thinner and more brittle.

HOT WATER -  For some reason hot showers can feel terrific, especially on cold mornings during dry season.  Unfortunately, hot water not only strips your skin of its natural oils, but it does the same to your hair. Washing your hair with hot water will make moisturising your hair extremely difficult.  It also reduces the natural lustre of your hair giving it a parched and crunchy appearance.

TURMERIC -  Although turmeric is great for the skin, it can wreak havoc on your scalp and could, potentially, make you go bald. Click here to find out why you should never apply turmeric to your hair and find out the best way to use it to promote hair growth!

As much as want to use natural/organic ingredients on our hair, some of these products actually do more harm than synthetic ingredients.

I’m definitely guilty of using more than one of these products on my hair but that is why it is so important to continually do your research.  Have you applied any of these products on your hair? If so, have you seen any negative results?
